Indiana AFL-CIO Table Meeting Call-In
April 10, 2011 - 5:30 PM
Thank you Nancy, Joe and all the other labor leaders in the room for your tireless work in fending off attacks on workers and all middle class Hoosiers.
Against all odds, you were able to beat back serious threats to working people. I won’t list them, but certainly you know them. Certainly they include taking right to work off the table, getting a permanent ban on public employee bargaining off the table in the House and they go on.
I know I speak for President Trumka and Executive Vice President Arlene Holt Baker when I say we are all extremely proud of the Indiana Labor Movement.
Your 36 days of sustained mobilization at the statehouse providing political strength and inspiration for the 39 house Democrats in their stand for working people in their districts as more than 75,000 Hoosiers walked in and out of the statehouse to protest these unprecedented attacks on the middle class.
The media coverage you were able to secure through your statehouse effort and through many events around the state kept the entire state engaged and inspired working people in Indiana and around the country. Your stand certainly did not go unnoticed.
Now, I ask that you to keep fighting. Keep building structure to ensure this attack does not happen again anywhere in this nation. Keep Phone Banking to build on the "Neighborhood Program" and keep filling up those phone shifts to capture the energy of union members willing to become "Neighborhood Captains" and speak with their union neighbors.
Keep Working hard on Worksites, Keep ordering flyers and distributing them on a regular basis.
Keep moving the small business strategy forward and keep identifying small businesses in the zones to engage them in this fight.
Keep up the events around the state to keep the message alive and educate the general public and public officials on the issues most important to working families.
Thank you, again, for all that you’ve done and all that you continue to do for the working men and women of Indiana. Your work continues to be an inspiration to me personally, and to an entire national movement dedicated to protect the middle class in this country.
